The Romanian Senate adopted on Monday a bill aimed at sanctioning doctors who disseminate false information or information contrary to recognized scientific evidence, which can endanger public health. With 79 votes "for", 38 "against" and 2 abstentions, the proposal amends Law no. 95/2006 regarding health reform. According to the new regulations, doctors will be held disciplinarily accountable for violating professional laws and for spreading false information.
Sanctions include a ban on practicing the profession for a period ranging from one month to one year for the first offense and the withdrawal of membership status from the College of Physicians of Romania (CMR) for the second offense. The Senate is the first body to be notified, and the Chamber of Deputies will have the final say on this matter.
