The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announced the confirmation of a case of leprosy in Romania, with three other suspected cases under evaluation. All four affected women are originally from Asia and work as masseuses at a SPA salon in Cluj-Napoca. Authorities have suspended the salon's activities and implemented strict epidemiological measures, including disinfection of the premises and checking the working conditions of the employees. The confirmed case was diagnosed through biopsy and microbiological tests, and specific treatment has been initiated, reducing the risk of transmission. The Ministry emphasized that leprosy has low contagiousness and is not transmitted through casual contact. The last case of leprosy in Romania was diagnosed in 1981, and the Ministry will continue to inform the public as the investigation progresses.
