Like in Romania, the last few weeks have been marked in Poland by the presidential election race, where Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of Warsaw, and Karol Nawrocki, the PiS representative, faced each other in the second round. Moreover, there was an interconnection between the electoral battles in Romania and Poland, through the reciprocal signals sent by politicians from the two countries and even through their direct participation in electoral actions.

Both George Simion and Nicușor Dan were present in Poland to support candidates in the presidential elections - George Simion went to the first round campaign to support Karol Nawrocki, and the current President was present in Warsaw, between the two rounds, at a rally of Rafał Trzaskowski. At the same time, there were direct exchanges between the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, and George Simion, as well as explicit messages of support for Nicușor Dan from the Polish dignitary.

In this very intense political context, the data aggregated and analyzed with NewsVibe, an AI-supported media intelligence software, indicates a high number of mentions about Poland - over 4400 in the last month - which reached an estimated number of views of almost 120 million. The peaks in the accumulation of mentions coincided with political events such as those mentioned. Even if, sporadically, there were also other topics related to Poland, in reality, the electoral confrontation in this country was the major topic in the relevant Romanian online sources.

Predominant sources

The top 15 influential online sources frequently mentioning Poland in the last month include the almost exclusive presence of generalist and news websites, as well as Facebook pages belonging to such media sources. Among these, the sites Adevărul, with almost 200 mentions, EVZ.ro, with 100 mentions, but also stiripesurse.ro, Ziare.com, G4media, Hotnews.ro or News.ro, each with over 60 mentions, stand out. None of the sources included in the top has less than 50 mentions about Poland in the last 30 days, which shows a high level of media coverage of this country in the Romanian online space.

Top keywords mentioned

The entities most frequently associated with Poland, in articles from web sources and Facebook posts, indicate a predominant focus on topics related to the election campaign in the country and the reciprocal signals sent by politicians from the two countries. There are thus associations with Romania, the names of the qualified candidates in the second round of the presidential elections in Poland, Rafał Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki, with the names of Romanian political leaders such as George Simion or Nicușor Dan. The name Donald Tusk

Secondarily, there are associations with Europe, France, Russia, Germany. These associations also reflect, in fact, the paradigm in which the discussions about the Polish elections have been conducted - namely, as an indirect confrontation between Europe and conservative movements considered more favorable to the Trump Administrationor (depending on the editorial orientation of the sources)Russia.

Evaluating the tone of communication

The NewsVibe platform has created an advanced sentiment analysis system that uses artificial intelligence, specially trained algorithms, and LLM-like language models to detect nuances of tone - favorable, unfavorable, or neutral - in the context of references to entities relevant to an online conversation.

Most of the mentions (79%) are rated as neutral, with a clear balance between positive and negative (11% vs. 10%). The negative tone of the online conversations about Poland was mainly influenced by the discussions (and the critical terminology used more frequently in them) about George Simion's involvement in the Warsaw campaign, while the positive tone was determined by the signals coming from Donald Tusk regarding the Romanian elections, as well as by Nicușor Dan's support for the Polish capital's mayor (terms reflecting support and cooperation being assessed as favorable tone).

Secondarily, the negative tone of online conversations about Poland was also fueled by discussions about Russia and its interests in the region.

Emoji and hashtags

The most commonly used emoji in Facebook posts indicate alert states, breaking news, goal achieved, Romania, the European Union or Poland. Actual emotions are rarely present in posts.
