According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), in 2024, national expenditures for environmental protection amounted to 28 billion lei, representing 1.9% of GDP.

At the national level, in 2024, expenditures for environmental protection were significant, with a share of 70.2% dedicated to the field of waste recovery and resource conservation. The largest investments were directed towards wastewater management and water resource management, representing 66.9% of total investments in this sector. Public administration investments accounted for 50.3% of total environmental protection expenditures, followed by non-specialized producers (37.1%) and specialized ones (12.6%). The largest total expenditures for environmental protection were 10.6 billion lei in the field of waste recovery, followed by 6.6 billion lei for air and climate.
