A forest fire broke out on Wednesday evening near Almorox, southwest of Madrid, causing the evacuation of several municipalities in the region. Authorities announced the evacuation of the municipalities of Encinar del Alberche, Ribera del Alberche, and Rincón del Alberche, while the municipality of Villa del Prado was placed under isolation.
Residents of Villa del Prado were asked to remain in their homes with the doors locked. Due to the rapid spread of the fire, rescuers issued alert messages to mobile phones in the area.
The Civil Guard closed several roads and deployed a significant intervention device, including 88 personnel and a helicopter. Authorities warn residents to be extremely cautious due to reduced visibility caused by smoke. Fires in Spain have been fueled by a heatwave, and so far, nearly 125,000 hectares have burned this year.
