Almost 70% of France's territory is facing severe restrictions on water use due to an intensified drought, exacerbated by repeated heatwaves over the past three months, according to an announcement from the government in Paris. On August 9, 99 departments, including the entire metropolitan territory, were at alert level, with 76 in crisis situation, the most severe level.

In these conditions, water is reserved for priority uses, such as health and drinking water. The Minister of Ecological Transition, Monique Barbut, emphasized that the supply of drinking water is problematic in 47 departments, affecting over 30,000 people in 80 municipalities. On Wednesday, a crisis meeting will be held to assess the hydrological situation and the impact of the drought on the environment.
