Alluvial gold traces have been identified in small quantities in Someșul Mare, according to information provided by environmental authorities.

The Bistrița-Năsăud County Environmental Directorate has issued a special authorization for the valorization of these particles, necessary for the exploitation and processing activities of riverbed materials. The director of the institution, Sever Roman, confirmed that only one authorization has been issued for the recovery of alluvial gold, which allows the processing of a few kilograms, requested by a gravel pit in the Uriu area.

Alluvial gold comes from the erosion of gold-bearing rocks, being transported by water and deposited in areas with a slow current. The main source of these particles is considered to be the Rodna area, known for its historical mining activities, with gold exploitation documented since the medieval period.
