Cătălin Drulă, the USR candidate for the Capital City mayoralty, announced an ambitious goal: by 2035, Bucharest should be a metropolis with zero deaths or serious injuries in road accidents. He emphasizes the importance of safety for the most vulnerable, such as children and the elderly, and proposes solutions for a safer city. These include traffic calming through lane narrowing and the creation of elevated pedestrian crossings, protecting pedestrians and cyclists with wide sidewalks and protected bike lanes, as well as improving the visibility of pedestrian crossings through enhanced lighting and traffic signals.
Drulă also proposes safer intersections with protected corners and visible markings, as well as the implementation of an automated camera system connected to the police for quick penalties. Additionally, he emphasizes the need for a detailed analysis of each serious accident to apply effective preventive measures.
