The Minister of Education, Daniel David, stated that he expects a drastic reduction in functional illiteracy in the next four years, through the implementation of a new curriculum at the high school level. The program will come into effect in the 2026-2027 school year, along with the introduction of a new curricular logic for the 9th grade. For now, there will be no changes at the gymnasium level, but it has been decided that 25% of the time allocated to each subject will be dedicated to remedial learning. The minister emphasized the importance of this measure for improving student performance in the National Assessment and PISA testing. Regarding the National Assessment for the 8th grade, Daniel David mentioned that no immediate changes are planned, emphasizing the need for a stable context to discuss possible reforms.
