According to the 2024 Cultural Consumption Barometer, nearly 70% of Romanian adults and their children have never participated in cultural education activities. The main reasons cited by respondents include lack of time (59%), absence of organized events in the locality (56%), and financial difficulties (18%). The study, conducted by IRES on a sample of 1,064 people, shows that those who participated in such activities benefited from an enrichment of cultural knowledge (78%) and an improvement in their children's school performance (42%). Experts emphasize the lack of a public strategy to support cultural education in Romania, which ranks last in Europe in terms of valuing culture. Additionally, Romania spent zero euros per capita on research in education and culture in 2024.
