József Váradi, the CEO of Wizz Air, stated that the Romanian state should give up funding TAROM and sell the company if there is a buyer. He emphasized that public money is wasted on supporting an inefficient airline operator, recalling the state aid granted to TAROM and Blue Air, which failed to recover their operations. Váradi criticized the contradiction between the support given to airlines and the government's calls to raise taxes due to the budget deficit, mentioning that TAROM has not recorded a profit since 2007.
He compared the situation to the bankruptcy of MALEV in Hungary, suggesting that a more efficient capacity could replace inefficient operators. Váradi stated that if there is a buyer, TAROM should be sold, and Wizz Air could selectively take over certain assets of the state company. Additionally, Wizz Air is challenging the legality of the state aid granted to TAROM, considering that it distorts competition in the aviation market. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announced that TAROM is on the list of state companies that will be reorganized or restructured.
