Uber has committed to invest over 10 billion dollars in the acquisition of autonomous vehicles and in stakes in companies developing this technology, according to a report by the Financial Times. This decision marks a significant shift in the company's strategy, which partially abandons its traditional 'gig economy' platform model to avoid being surpassed by the emergence of robotaxis. Uber collaborates with major players in the autonomous vehicle industry, such as Baidu, Rivian, and Lucid, and aims to launch robotaxi services in at least 28 cities by 2028. Estimates suggest that investments could exceed 2.5 billion dollars in stakes and 7.5 billion dollars for robotaxi fleets in the coming years. However, the implementation of these projects depends on achieving certain technical and operational objectives set for the involved partners. Interest in autonomous taxis has recently increased, fueled by advancements in artificial intelligence and new technological partnerships.
