The Romanian state intends to borrow approximately 11.2 billion lei from local investors in the first month of the year 2026, according to an order from the Minister of Finance published in the Official Gazette. This amount is intended to finance the budget deficit and refinance public debt. Compared to December 2025, the planned amount is 6.025 billion lei higher. In January, the Ministry of Finance will organize auctions for two issues of treasury certificates, each worth one billion lei, and 12 auctions for benchmark bonds, totaling 8 billion lei. Additionally, there will be extra sessions for non-competitive bids, bringing the total amount to 11.2 billion lei.
