The monetary mass reached 806,089.2 million lei at the end of May 2026, an increase of 1.6% compared to April and 7.5% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania. At the same time, the non-governmental credit granted by credit institutions rose to 465,042.3 million lei, recording a monthly increase of 1.6%, especially supported by the increase in foreign currency loans.
At the same time, the balance of government credit increased by 1.7% compared to April, reaching 283,308.8 million lei. The deposits of non-governmental resident clients also advanced by 1.6%, reaching 683,365.8 million lei, while deposits in lei rose by 0.8% compared to the previous month. Compared to May 2025, both non-governmental loans and deposits recorded increases of 7.7%.
