Romania is approaching the adoption of the budget for 2026, after the government led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan approved the project, which will be sent to Parliament for debate on Friday. Bolojan emphasized that the budget is balanced and aims to reduce the deficit, in the context of rising interest rates and fuel prices. The gross minimum wage will increase by 6.8% from July 1, 2026, and the government has adopted a support scheme for transporters, following the increase in excise duties. The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, mentioned that the budget anticipates a GDP growth of 1% and an inflation rate of 6.5%. Additionally, an investment space of approximately 164 billion lei is estimated, with a significant increase in European funds. The PSD announced that it will review the project with objections, moving the debate to Parliament, where it will try to reintroduce the allocations rejected by the government. The social democrats emphasize that delaying the adoption of the budget could affect the economic stability of the country.
