The government led by Bolojan announces an optimistic outlook for the Romanian economy, forecasting that GDP will exceed 2,000 billion lei in 2026, according to estimates from the National Commission for Strategy and Forecast (CNSP). Although GDP is estimated to reach 2,045 billion lei in 2026, real economic growth will be modest, at only 1%. The year 2025 was marked by economic difficulties, mainly due to fiscal measures that affected growth. Analysts emphasize that, although the government boasts about the GDP record, the economy is advancing slowly, and the budget deficit remains a major problem, with Romania having one of the highest public debts in Europe, reaching 57.3% of GDP in the second quarter of 2025. It is estimated that public debt will continue to rise, approaching 60% of GDP in 2026. This situation raises questions about the economic sustainability of the country compared to other member states of the European Union.
