In April 2026, the volume of retail trade turnover, excluding the trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, recorded a decrease of 1.4% compared to March 2026, both in raw series and adjusted, with a reduction of 2.6%. Compared to April 2025, the decrease was 5.4% in raw series and 6.3% adjusted. This negative trend was influenced by declines in fuel sales (-5.2%), non-food products (-0.9%), and food products, beverages, and tobacco (-0.1%).
In the first four months of 2026, the volume of turnover decreased by 5.8% compared to the same period in 2025, with a similar decrease observed in all product categories.
The data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) highlights a general trend of diminishing commercial activity, which may reflect a decrease in consumption and a market adjustment.
