Samsung Electronics has announced preliminary results for the second quarter of 2026, highlighting a spectacular increase in operating profit, estimated at approximately 89.4 trillion won (about 51 billion euros), up over 1,800% compared to the same period last year. This result exceeds analysts' expectations by 6% and establishes a new quarterly record for the company. Revenues are estimated at 171 trillion won (approximately 98 billion euros), representing a 129% increase compared to the second quarter of 2025.
The growth is driven by increased demand for semiconductors intended for artificial intelligence applications, especially in data centers. This is the largest quarterly operating performance in Samsung's history, and Professor Kim Dae-jong suggests that if the pace continues, Samsung could become the world leader in semiconductor production.
The semiconductor industry plays a crucial role in the South Korean economy, supported by massive investments in AI infrastructure. The South Korean government has announced a public-private investment program of over 1 trillion euros for the next decade.
