Romgaz intends to launch the first offers for residential consumers by the end of March, drawing inspiration from the Hidroelectrica model.
The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, emphasized that entry into the market depends on the approval of a memorandum by the Government and the implementation of the necessary IT infrastructure. The deadline for launching the offers is March 31, with a possible delay of 2-3 weeks for technical adjustments. Romgaz's strategy aims to positively influence competition and provide more advantageous prices for consumers. Additionally, the capping of natural gas prices for residential consumers will end on March 31, 2026, and the authorities will adopt a transition mechanism to avoid sudden increases in bills. This hybrid approach will combine a cap on the producer's price and a maximum cap on transport, distribution, and supply tariffs, ensuring that the final price does not exceed 0.31 lei/kWh. The state will cover the differences in case of higher prices, thus encouraging suppliers and distributors to optimize their expenses.
