The government debt of Romania reached 1,070.18 billion lei in July 2025, representing 58.9% of GDP, with a significant increase compared to the previous month.

The Ministry of Finance reported an increase in public administration debt to 1,070.18 billion lei in July 2025, compared to 1,039.96 billion lei in June, which represents 58.9% of GDP. Medium and long-term debt rose to 1,004.9 billion lei, while short-term debt reached 65.19 billion lei. The majority of the debt, 884.026 billion lei, comes from government bonds, while loans amount to 166.6 billion lei.


The debt in lei is 489.747 billion lei, in euros it is 465.49 billion lei, and in US dollars it is 112.96 billion lei. The central administration debt increased to 1,046 billion lei, with a significant share in lei and euros. Local public debt rose to 24.175 billion lei, while internal debt was at 523.116 billion lei, representing 28.8% of GDP. External debt reached 547.063 billion lei, equivalent to 30.1% of GDP.
