At the end of June, Romania's total external debt reached 232.7 billion euros, recording an increase of 4.3 billion euros compared to the end of last year, according to data published by the BNR.

The public administration debt increased by 3.39 billion euros, reaching 129 billion euros, which represents 55.4% of the total external debt. Almost 80% of the increase in external debt in the first half of the year was generated by the rise in public administration debt. The largest component of public debt is represented by debt securities, which have increased to 88.27 billion euros.

Long-term debt reached 184.5 billion euros, representing 79.3% of the total, while short-term debt was 48.1 billion euros. Intra-group loans related to foreign direct investments decreased to 50.4 billion euros.

The long-term external debt service ratio decreased to 15.2%, and the coverage of imports with international reserves dropped to 5.8 months.
