According to the National Bank of Romania, the total external debt increased by 24.002 billion euros in the period from January to November 2025, reaching 227.512 billion euros. Long-term debt represents 78.5% of the total, with a value of 178.599 billion euros, an increase of 14.2% compared to the end of 2024.
At the same time, short-term debt reached 48.913 billion euros, an increase of 3.7%. The current account deficit was 27.140 billion euros, compared to 26.060 billion euros in the same period of the previous year. Direct investments by non-residents in Romania increased significantly, reaching 7.587 billion euros.
The long-term external debt service ratio decreased to 17%, and the coverage ratio of imports increased to 6 months. Additionally, the coverage ratio of short-term external debt with foreign exchange reserves was 103.5%.
