The Romanian government presented the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the favorable vote for the EU-Mercosur Agreement, emphasizing that the negotiations have brought benefits for Romanian farmers. These include additional resources, a safeguard clause for 5% variations in the prices and volumes of imported agricultural products, as well as stricter control over compliance with sanitary-veterinary rules for products from Mercosur. The approval process of the Agreement has two stages: one at the European level and another national, culminating in the vote of the European Parliament and the adoption of the ratification law by the Romanian Parliament. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the Agreement will not fully liberalize trade in agricultural products, but will impose strict quantitative limits on sensitive imports. Additionally, a memorandum is necessary to continue the approval process of the Agreement.
