The dismissed Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that Romania must continue fiscal consolidation even after 2026, emphasizing that economic stability and fiscal discipline are essential. In a Facebook post, he highlighted the progress made in the process of joining the OECD, mentioning that Romania has closed 24 out of the 25 necessary committees.
Nazare emphasized that, despite investors' concerns regarding the budget deficit of 9.3% of GDP in 2024, Romania has achieved the largest fiscal adjustment in the European Union, reducing the cash deficit to 7.65% of GDP in 2025. He stated that recent assessments confirm that the country is on the right track to meet the targets set for 2026 and 2027. Nazare concluded by stating that Romania can no longer afford to take steps back and that fiscal consolidation must continue with seriousness and responsibility.
