Romania has been included in the category of countries that meet the minimum requirements for fiscal transparency for the year 2025, according to an assessment conducted by the U.S. Department of State, published on Tuesday. This annual assessment analyzes public access to budget documents and their quality.

Out of the 140 governments evaluated, 73 met the transparency standards. The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, emphasized the importance of fiscal transparency for building trust in markets and responsible management of public finances.

Additionally, for the 2026 assessment, the criteria have been strengthened, including the requirement to publish the terms of sovereign loans. The report highlights that fiscal transparency is essential for effective financial management, helping to reduce corruption risks and ensuring the proper use of funds. The assessment was conducted in collaboration with federal agencies and international organizations, confirming Romania's efforts to ensure free access to budget information.
