Tanczos Barna, the interim Minister of Agriculture, requested, during the meeting of the Council of Agriculture and Fisheries in Brussels, immediate support from the European Union for managing crises in agriculture and more substantial long-term budget allocations.
He emphasized the importance of protecting domestic agriculture in the context of the EU-Mercosur agreement, mentioning that its impact must be analyzed at the national level. Romania, along with 15 other member states, has conveyed clear expectations for a larger agricultural budget in the upcoming multiannual budget of the EU. Tanczos Barna highlighted the crises facing European agriculture, including rising production costs and extreme climate phenomena, calling for urgent measures and resources from the EU's agricultural reserve. He stressed that it is essential for the EU to protect member states from the negative effects of imports and to quickly apply safeguard measures when necessary.
