According to recent data from the National Agency for Cadastre and Real Estate Publicity (ANCPI), the real estate market in Romania experienced a drastic decline in January 2026. A total of 24,598 properties were sold, which is 31,605 fewer than the previous month and 6,236 fewer compared to January 2025.
Bucharest had the most sales, with 4,159 properties, followed by Ilfov (1,799) and Brașov (1,273). In contrast, the counties with the fewest transactions were Teleorman (41), Călărași (121), and Sălaj (169).
Additionally, the number of mortgages decreased to 14,830, which is 5,855 fewer than in the same period last year, with the most being in Bucharest (2,564). Regarding agricultural land, Buzău County recorded the most sales (436). This declining trend suggests a stagnation in the Romanian real estate market.
