The presidential advisor Radu Burnete stated that Romania started the year 2025 with a significantly larger real budget deficit than the officially reported one, estimating it between 9% and 10%. Burnete emphasized that this deficit is difficult to quantify due to the state's debts, including those for medical leave and energy suppliers.
He mentioned that, to reduce the deficit, authorities need to start from realistic estimates in the state budget law. Burnete highlighted that transparency in reporting figures has contributed to maintaining the confidence of international financiers, who continue to support Romania. He also stated that the measures adopted will have a significant impact on the deficit, which could decrease to around 6% in the following year.
