The port of Antwerp-Bruges, a major automotive transportation hub, has become a huge parking lot for thousands of vehicles, vans and heavy machinery stuck because of new trade tariffs imposed by President Trump. In the first half of 2025, exports of cars and vans to the US fell by 15.9% and exports of trucks and heavy machinery by 31.5%. The 25% tariff has made transportation unprofitable, and the outlook for the second half of the year remains uncertain, depending on a possible US-EU trade deal.
