The media group Paramount Skydance announced on Monday a hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) valued at $108.4 billion, after Netflix announced a $72 billion acquisition for the Warner Bros and HBO Max studios. Paramount proposed a price of $30 per share and urged WBD shareholders to reject Netflix's offer, arguing that it could lead to a lengthy approval process by regulatory authorities. Warner Bros and Paramount shares rose by 5-6%, while Netflix shares fell. President Donald Trump expressed doubts about the Netflix acquisition, highlighting the concentration of market power. Analysts believe that the Netflix acquisition could strengthen its dominance in the entertainment industry, giving it rights over major franchises. The Paramount offer is seen as an attempt to block Netflix and strengthen its market position.
