Over 50,000 jobs have disappeared in recent months from the Romanian economy, and economist Cristian Năsulea warns that a period of 'restructuring' in the labor market is forthcoming, exacerbated by economic imbalances and political instability.

Năsulea emphasizes that job losses could continue, but notes that until a year ago, the Romanian economy was facing a labor shortage, offering hope for those affected. In the context of the demands from SMEs to cancel the minimum wage increase, the economist states that this could have negative effects, with the risk of job losses for some employees.

Năsulea suggests that the decision regarding the minimum wage should be reconsidered, taking into account the economic contraction. Additionally, recent data shows a decrease in Romania's GDP by 0.2% in the first quarter of 2026, and the inflation rate has reached 10.7%.
