The production of components for Nvidia's H200 artificial intelligence chip has been halted by the company's suppliers after Chinese authorities refused its entry into the country. This decision surprised the semiconductor industry, considering that suppliers were preparing to fulfill large orders from China, with expectations of over a million units. Following the transport blockade, Chinese government officials summoned representatives of technology companies to warn them to avoid purchasing the chip, without providing clear explanations regarding the nature of the restrictions. The H200 chip, considered a flagship product of Nvidia, has become a new point of tension between the United States and China, with analysts suggesting that Beijing could use these restrictions to support local manufacturers or as a bargaining tool with Washington, aiming to reduce dependence on American technology in the advanced semiconductor field.
