The National Institute of Statistics released data for the first quarter of 2024, showing that the average total monthly household income was 9,148 lei, up from the previous year. Gross wages accounted for 68.4% of income, and urban households had significantly higher incomes than rural households. Average expenditures were 7,667 lei, representing 83.8% of income, with a high share of agri-food products in expenditures. Spending on education was the lowest, at only 36 lei per household.
