Average total monthly household incomes in Romania reached 10,204 lei in the second quarter of 2026, up 8% from the previous quarter, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics. Compared with the same period in 2025, household incomes rose by 7.4%, while per capita incomes increased by 10.4%, reaching 4,222 lei.
Cash incomes amounted to 9,748 lei per household, while in-kind incomes totaled 456 lei. Gross wages and other wage entitlements were the main source of income, at 7,354 lei per month, accounting for 72.1% of the total. Social benefits contributed 2,005 lei, or 19.6%.
In urban areas, average income stood at 11,118 lei per household, compared with approximately 9,265 lei in rural areas. Per capita, the difference was 4,997 lei in urban areas and 3,405 lei in rural areas.
Total expenditure rose to 8,650 lei per household, accounting for 84.8% of income. Consumption absorbed 4,936 lei, while taxes, contributions and fees totaled 3,159 lei. The largest consumer expenditures were for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing and utilities.
