In January 2026, technology companies such as Amazon and Meta announced significant layoffs, with approximately 34,000 jobs eliminated. This is a continuation of the trend from recent years, when employees from Big Tech, previously sought after by recruiters, are now facing a difficult job market. Amazon cut 16,000 jobs, while Meta laid off 1,500 employees. Although IT employees used to find jobs quickly, they are now facing fierce competition and a decrease in available positions. In 2025, technology companies in the US announced 154,000 layoffs, and many large companies, including Google and Tesla, planned significant staff reductions. This situation has led to an oversaturation of the job market, with too many candidates and too few available positions. Employers are becoming more selective, having higher expectations and seeking candidates with experience in startups, which disadvantages workers with experience in large companies. Intensified competition and economic uncertainty further complicate the job search for those laid off.
