The governor of the BNR, Mugur Isărescu, stated at the conference 'Risks and Opportunities in the Romanian Financial System' that Romania has a country project focused on joining the OECD, with 30-40 milestones that need to be met. After the completion of this objective, the next step will be the adoption of the euro, a project already announced, but which requires thorough preparation, especially in the context of the major fiscal deficit. Isărescu emphasized that Bucharest could adopt the euro quickly, but this process must include the entire country, not just the capital, considering the economic disparities. President Nicușor Dan argued that adopting the euro is essential for Romania's competitiveness in the global economy, emphasizing that integration into the European economy is a necessity.
