According to a report published by the consulting group EY, internal combustion engine vehicles are regaining the attention of buyers globally, in the context of policy changes, trade tensions, and skepticism regarding electric vehicle infrastructure. In the U.S., President Donald Trump has proposed relaxing fuel economy standards, while the European Union is considering a watered-down version of the ban on sales of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035. Constantin M. Gall, the leader of EY's Mobility division, emphasized that the transition to electric vehicles is progressing more slowly than anticipated, and in China, buyers are more interested in the digital integration of the vehicle than the type of propulsion. EY data shows that 50% of car buyers intend to purchase an internal combustion engine vehicle in the next two years, while the preference for electric vehicles has dropped to 14%. Additionally, 36% of those interested in electric vehicles are considering delaying or abandoning their purchase due to the geopolitical situation.
