In a recent interview, the Prime Minister of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, warned that without loans in 2026, public sector salaries, totaling 150 billion lei, will not be able to be paid.

"If we do not adopt the legislation to reform the central and local administration in November, we can no longer implement this legislation before the budget. And I will do everything possible to fulfill my duty as Prime Minister for our country, explaining once in the coalition, twice, in such a way as to convince my colleagues that if we hold party meetings it is good to do so and to see well, we have no money, right? To propose all sorts of solutions on how to distribute the money you do not have, which you borrow at enormous interest rates that lead us to the situation we are in, everyone knows how to do that. But how do you make savings, you should know that there is not much enthusiasm," said Ilie Bolojan on Sunday, at Digi 24.
