Romania's public debt increased to RON 964.382 billion in January 2025, remaining at 54.6% of GDP

In January 2025, the general government debt rose to RON 964.382 billion from RON 964.345 billion in December 2024, representing 54.6% of GDP. Medium and long-term debt increased to RON 889.16 billion, while short-term debt decreased. Government securities make up the majority of the debt at 789.03 billion lei. Domestic debt increased to Lei 487.36 billion and external debt decreased to Lei 477.014 billion.
