Germany's minimum wage will be raised in two stages, according to a commission made up of employers and trade unions. The first stage will increase the wage to €13.90 an hour in 2026, and the second stage will take the wage to €14.60 in 2027. The minimum wage was introduced in 2015 and has been increased 10 times. In the election campaign, the Social Democrats promised an increase to €15 an hour. By EU comparison, minimum wages vary significantly between countries.
