The Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, reacted to the statements of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who suggested that unemployment benefits should be reduced to discourage idleness. Manole emphasized that unemployment benefits are intended exclusively for those who have worked, not for those who do not wish to work. He explained that the benefits are calculated based on the contributions of those who have had a decent salary and that they are not sufficient to support a standard of living. Additionally, Manole mentioned that the PSD has proposed facilities for hiring unemployed individuals and young debutants. In contrast, Bolojan stated that Romania is facing a labor force deficit and highlighted the need to discourage idleness by reducing unemployment benefits. The Prime Minister added that the retirement age should be raised, considering the financial sustainability of the pension system.
