The Federation of Gambling Organizers (FEDBET) emphasizes that a total ban on traditional gambling would have devastating consequences, including a loss of 700 million euros annually to the state budget and the disappearance of 30,000 jobs. According to Emergency Ordinance no. 7/2026, local councils can decide the regime of gambling, but the incorrect application of this law could lead to significant losses. FEDBET estimates that a total ban would close nearly 5,000 gambling venues, particularly affecting small towns. Additionally, the ban will not eliminate demand but will lead to the development of a black market, where the state loses control and tax revenues. Instead of a ban, FEDBET proposes strict regulation, which includes zoning, local taxation, operational standards, and protection of minors. The organization offers to collaborate with authorities to implement an effective framework that protects communities and generates revenue. Decisions made without prior assessments can have unintended negative effects, including the growth of the illegal market.
