The Cluj Court of Appeal has canceled the environmental permit for the Rovina gold project, the second largest in Europe.

The decision was taken following intense mobilization by local residents and environmental organizations, which highlighted serious problems in the project's environmental impact assessment. Without this opinion, Canadian mining company Euro Sun Mining will not be able to start operations. The project was also blocked in 2022, after the Cluj Court of Appeal decided to suspend the environmental permit for the urban development plan for the project.
