Chevron, the American oil group, is exploring the possibilities of acquiring the global assets of the Russian company Lukoil, in the context of the sanctions imposed by the United States. The U.S. Treasury recently gave the green light for potential buyers to discuss with Lukoil about its international assets, evaluating a portfolio estimated at at least 20 billion dollars. Chevron may collaborate with Carlyle and other companies in this endeavor. Lukoil, which extracts about 2% of global oil production, is seeking buyers for its international assets, which include refineries and stakes in oil fields in various countries.
