Ministry of Finance: Deficit of 0.7% of GDP in the first 2 months of 2026, half compared to last year

In the first two months of 2026, the total revenues of Romania's budget reached 103.73 billion lei, recording a growth of 15.7% compared to the same period in 2025. This increase is reflected in the advance of current revenues, especially from VAT and income tax. Net collections from VAT were 23.75 billion lei, with a growth of 20.6%, influenced by better performance in collection. Additionally, income and salary tax totaled 13.46 billion lei, an increase of 22.3%, due to the advance in collections from dividend tax. Total expenditures decreased by 1.6% compared to last year, totaling 117.96 billion lei, while social assistance expenditures increased by 0.9%. Investments amounted to 11.20 billion lei, most of which were financed from non-reimbursable external funds. This economic dynamic suggests an improvement in fiscal performance and support for private investments in the economy.
