The National Bank of Romania (BNR) published today, at 1:00 PM, the exchange rate, which shows a decrease of the euro to 5.2661 lei, down by -0.0027 lei, and of the dollar to 4.4727 lei, down by -0.0019 lei. In contrast, the Swiss franc increased to 5.7518 lei, up by 0.0089 lei. These quotes are valid for transactions on the following day, May 8. Dan Suciu, spokesperson for BNR, mentioned that the current period is marked by instability, and the markets are awaiting clarifications regarding the political and financial situation in Romania. He emphasized that, in the absence of clear answers, tensions in the markets could continue, and BNR will manage its resources to face these challenges.
"It is a period of instability, it is felt in the markets, it is a turbulent period, there are many answers that the markets are waiting for from the political and financial situation in Romania. In the coming period, we will likely witness fluctuations in the exchange rate, probably in both directions," said BNR spokesperson Dan Suciu on Thursday.
