Bitcoin has recorded a decline of over 5%, falling below $65,000, after President Donald Trump announced plans to increase global tariffs by 15%. This decline occurred in the context of rising Asian equities, highlighting the divergence of cryptocurrencies from stock markets. Since the peak of $125,000 in October last year, Bitcoin has lost 26% this year and over 47% from that peak.
Jeff Mei, Chief Operating Officer at BTSE, mentioned that the increase in tariffs is causing investors to sell crypto assets, anticipating a more severe market decline. Additionally, the accumulation of U.S. military forces in the Middle East is generating concerns about a possible armed conflict, which could affect global trade. Markus Thielen from 10x Research emphasized that the decline in Bitcoin is influenced by weak liquidity and market uncertainty, expecting a possible further drop towards $50,000.
In contrast, the demand for safe havens has led to an increase in gold transactions, highlighting a divergence from Bitcoin, often referred to as "digital gold." Bitcoin hit a more than one-year low of $63,119.8 on February 5, and its decline is attributed to the four-year cycle of the cryptocurrency market, according to Matt Hougan from Bitwise.
