Banga, former CEO of Mastercard, warns that developing countries are facing a huge deficit of jobs, estimating that 1.2 billion people will reach working age in the next 10-15 years, but economies will create only 400 million jobs. In an interview with Reuters, he emphasized the difficulties of maintaining attention on long-term issues in the context of successive economic crises, including the conflict in the Middle East. Banga stated that it is essential to address both short-term and long-term issues simultaneously, such as job creation and access to clean water. At the spring meetings of the World Bank and IMF, officials discuss the necessary reforms to stimulate investments and facilitate job creation. Banga emphasized that, although an ideal situation cannot be achieved in the next 15 years, immediate actions are crucial to prevent illegal migration and instability. Additionally, the World Bank will launch initiatives to ensure access to clean water for one billion people and will seek to attract more private sector investments in key areas such as infrastructure and agriculture.
