Anthropic has reached a $1.5 billion settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit in which authors accused the company of copyright infringement by illegally accessing books. The company will pay $3,000 for each pirated book and will destroy the illegal data. The agreement sends a clear message about the use of protected works. The lawsuit was set to begin in December, but the settlement halted the proceedings. Recently, Anthropic secured $13 billion in funding, valuing itself at $183 billion.
