The annual rate of inflation climbed to 7.8% in July, driven by rising electricity prices, beating analysts' forecasts.

In July, the annual inflation rate rose significantly to 7.8%, up from 5.66% in June, on the back of the removal of the electricity caps, which saw a monthly increase of 61.57%. The consumer price index beat expectations, with BCR economists forecasting inflation of 8.8% at the end of the year. CORE2 inflation accelerated to 5.8% and food prices rose 0.39%. Inflation is expected to peak at 9.2% in August, and the NBR will not cut interest rates until the inflation outlook becomes clearer.
